New Years eve in the Capital

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE!!!

Last night all of my fellow "stagers" and I drove the two hours from Foricariah to Conakry to ring in the New Years in style. IE flushing toilette's, air conditioning, and running water for showers. The two hour ride was full of joyous song and military check points. After the Coup, they monitor who is going/coming into Conakry. So got to drive by that. Good times!

Finally got to Conakry around 7, stuck out my bed and ran up to the computer room to start responding to e-mails and blogging away. How nice it is to have the Internet!!! You guys have it too good at home.

After my hour of pre-assigned computer time i went back to the Volunteer house and eat my hummus and bread for dinner and rounded up the troops to go out to the beach bar to celebrate in style. Almost all of the "stagers" and volunteers were down there sitting on the beach drinking our Guiluxe (crappy Guinean beer), feet berried in the sand. I sat and watched the tide roll in for a while and then danced the night away. Of course, the mass group of americans were the only ones that did a huge count down to the new years. We shoot off fireworks and had a good old time.

Around 12:30 we decided to peace out and go back to the house. So we meander our way back to the P.C. compound and hang out for a few hours just chatting and enjoying the air conditioning. Finlay hitting the sack around 2:30 am.

Had a great night sleep ( IN AIR CONDITIONING) and woke up around 9:30 (which is the latest I've been able to sleep in while in Guinea). And then, I TOOK A SHOWER, that didn't require a bucket! It was AWESOME!!!! And then went down stairs and watched 5 episodes of Sex and the City. Once again AWESOME!!!!!

I leave Conakry at 4 pm local time today to go back to Foricariah for more PC training. I stay in Foricariah until Thursday when I leave to meet my counterpart and do a workshop with them and then i go straight out to site for a week!!!!! I can't wait to find out what my living situation will be like!!! It should be rich.

This is my last time with the internet until Feb, so expect another blog update around then. But i would like to thank all of you who have been thinking about me and sending me letters/packages. It truly means a lot to open up cards from everyone and read a little about life back in the states.

Love and miss each and everyone of you,

Corinna
